A Tom English double saw the Rebels pip the Waratahs 24-22 for the first time in Super Rugby history in an enthralling Melbourne clash on Friday night.

In Friday's earlier match, the Chiefs stayed top of the Super Rugby ladder and New Zealand conference with a 28-19 win over the Crusaders in Hamilton. In a match dominated by the boot, the Waratahs conceded late under mounting pressure on their try line as English scored in the far corner to put the home side two points ahead.Jason Woodward failed to convert from the difficult angle, but his miss was matched by Brendan McKibbin who missed a crucial penalty just three minutes later that would have stolen victory for the Waratahs.Woodward had earlier kicked five from five to match Berrick Barnes' identical effort for the visitors, after Israel Folau had scored an opportunistic intercept try to give the Waratahs a 16-13 half-time lead.
